Had a class on inventing figures for animation by Rad Sechrist (Dreamworks) today. Here’s a few pages from my notes on breaking down head structure and tips on varying head sizes and shapes. Some of these you might already know, but it’s still very useful to keep in mind while drawing.
Also a tip on how to draw jawline when the character is looking upwards. Most common mistake is in drawing the jawline facing at an angle above horizontal, because when heads look up, jawline is still either in line with the horizontal, or slightly below it. The only time jawline point at an angle above horizon is when the character is looking up at an extreme angle (almost straight up!)

Honest question: Webcomic development
When do I start, y’know, actually talking about my ideas and characters in my comic that I’ve been developing for I believe a year now?
Cause I have to get people pumped about it at some point, I can’t just drop money on a site (which I still have to do…
I find that, when writing bios, it’s really helpful to look at a list or a chart like the one above. Picking two or three traits from each chart and building a character based around them will give you a really interesting bio, because they will serve as a reminder that characters need depth and dimension.
Independent and clever.
VS.
Independent, clever, pretentious, and stubborn.
The first combination doesn’t come with any flaws, whereas the second will provide a more dynamic character.

A big ol’ tip on drawing cities from street-level. The drawings are pretty crude, (I did them very fast,) but I think they get the point across :) I’m sure some streets like in the first example actually exist in the world, but why would you choose to draw something so boringly bland?
Hope it helps you out!

I am currently trying to find a certain animation website.
It was a fantastic resource because it included all animated films and each film had a folder for character sheets, production art, concept art, etc.
I can’t find it anywhere. I remember it was suggested by someone here on Tumblr but I can’t find the site. Help? It also focused a great deal on the fact it was art. I know this is really vague but I have tried everything.
I think you’re looking for livlily.
Steampunky mask, made by this guy. It’s called Ichabod. :)

I drew a newer/cleaner version of this in English for the anon who asked for an English version a month ago or so? Sorry for taking so long orz
This has the same info in it as before except for one extra point.
Anyways, again, these are all self-observed notes! I don’t study art or whatever! And I highly suggest you look at different pictures of faces and practice this to have a better understanding.
